Ben’s David Murray John Print
January 2021
My son wanted an artwork to remind him of his roots.
He specifically asked for a local building; the David Murray John tower, to be included in a reduction linocut print.
Whilst perusing Instagram one afternoon, I came across a photograph of the building from an angle showing a circular road ramp onto the roof of the shops nearby. I immediately thought it would make a good composition to incorporate with my other idea of including some train tracks to symbolise the main industry the town was built upon.
After I obtained permission from the photographer to use the photograph as a basis, I set about designing the print.
I have included some photos showing the “in transition” print layers. In all I used 8 layers of colour to complete it.
I hope my son is pleasantly reminded of Swindon when he looks at his print.
